Five important lessons to learn from Dussehra

Vineet Golani

Dussehra is a major Hindu festival that is celebrated at the end of Navratri every year.

Dussehra celebrates the victory of God Ram over the evil Ravana.

This was the day on which the good finally put an end to the evil.

It is celebrated by burning the Ravana with ten heads on the day of Dussehra. Some cities have a Ram Leela play too. This is followed by a celebration with firecrackers.

On this auspicious day of Dussehra, we bring to you 5 tips to make your investments worth and ready to fight off any negative impact on it.

1. Taking care of your finances:

The importance of Dussehra is to defeat evil and take care and protect humanity at all costs.

In the same way, you must take care of your finances to protect them from any harm to ensure a stable and secure future.

Finances can be protected by investing them in safe sources such as gold, mutual funds, insurance, etc.

Debt in the form of loans and borrowings must be avoided, and if taken must be returned at the earliest to avoid any negative impact.

2. Creating an emergency fund

Lord Ram was prepared for the 14 day Lanka war with his troops by his side. But are you already prepared for the same? If not this is the best time to do so!

Creating an emergency fund could be done by investing in liquid mutual funds or creating a Short Term Fixed deposit account with all your money contributed in it towards an emergency.

What's more, it will also give you a decent return on your investment. This amount will come in handy for a huge unforeseen expense or a medical emergency.

3. Discussing your finances with your family:

An important takeaway from Ramayana was how lord Ram’s army always was there to support and assist each other during the war that broke out in Lanka.

You too should focus on safeguarding your family’s future and wishes securely before anything else. This is one of the most important things that most individuals forget about.

Discussing financials with one’s family is a must as, during the happening of an unwanted event, one’s family is well versed with where all investments have been made. Further, they should have an idea about how to make claims on emergency funds and life insurance.

Sometimes discussing these important matters with family can also shed light on various insights that they may provide.

4. Time for new beginnings:

Dussehra marks the start of a new journey ahead. This is the best time to restructure and go through your finances and get them sorted out.

A new financial plan will go a long way in making your future stronger and independent. Focus on chalking out short-term and long-term financial goals for a fully protected future.

5. Paying attention to investment advice

In Ramayana, Devi Sita didn’t listen to lord Lakshman's advice and decided to cross the Lakshman Rekha which proved to be a fatal scenario.

Similarly, you must always be an alert investor and pay attention to important advice on investment matters.

Along with taking advice, you in addition should do great research before you make a call on any investment avenue.
